Think about security when working remotely

More and more employees are being forced to work from home because of Covid 19 and now it's particularly important to think about how you as a company manage your information.

There are great cloud services available today that make it easy to conduct meetings internally and externally remotely. But what services do you use as a business to store and share information? When you store and share company files with Storegate's cloud services, all information is stored in Sweden, under Swedish law. This means that your company's files are 100% protected against the US CLOUD Act and that you as a company will find it much easier to comply with the GDPR (personal data, business critical information, etc.). It's not just important for you. The way you handle your information is also important to your customers and partners.

Below are some tips on what your company should consider when staff work from home:

  • If possible, use the computer assigned to you by your employer.
  • Keep your computer and software up to date. Don't forget to restart after installation.
  • Have strong passwords, and not the same one for multiple logins. Use password managers such as Lastpass or those available for the browser. Also remember to change the password for your router, preferably if you have never changed it from the default password.
  • Have secure login type multi-factor identification on the job network. That is, something more than a username and password to get in. Storegate offers both 2-step verification and BankID.
  • Do not use foreign cloud services to share sensitive files. For example, even files with personal data cannot be stored in US cloud services due to GDPR. To simplify management, share all files with Storegate, then all data is stored within Sweden under Swedish law.
  • Lock or hide your computer if you are not at home.
  • Avoid using public wifi networks.
  • Check senders and content extra carefully before clicking in emails and social media, or opening pages about corona. Scammers are taking advantage of the crisis.
